The NBA Rookie of the Year Award is an annual award, given to the top rookie of each NBA season. The award was first presented after the 1952-53 NBA season. Similar to the voting process for other NBA awards, US & Canadian sportswriters each cast first/second/third place votes, which are worth 5/3/1 points respectively. The rookie with the highest point total after all the votes have been cast is the winner (the number of first place votes is not a factor in the decision).
