Weekend 3, Week 4
A little more than two weeks of games are in the books and with big weekend series’ opening up tonight, we wanted to prep you on whom to root for. You can still check out last week’s bandwagon report where we predicted that things would get better for the Red Sox and Cardinals, while the Pirates and Orioles would come crashing back to earth. Boston isn’t quite leading the AL East yet, but the Cardinals have looked strong, winning 4 out of their last 5. The Pirates, have lost 4 of their last 5, bringing them back down to their usual spot near the bottom of the NL Central. The Orioles have seen pretty much the same story unfold before them. Losers of 4 in a row, their lead in the AL East is gone and we aren’t sure if they will recover. How does this upcoming week look?
Hop Onboard – Things Will Get Better
- Tampa Bay Rays – They are starting to turn their dismal start around, thanks to a walkoff win on Thursday night against the struggling Twins. Their upcoming schedule features more of the Twins who saw their All-Star Catcher Joe Mauer go on the DL, and a 3 game set with the White Sox who aren’t playing their best ball right now either. The Rays could conceivably win 4 out of their next 6 and get back up to .500.
Don’t Bother – They’ve Peaked Out
- Los Angeles Dodgers – When this club took 3 out of 4 from the defending champion Giants, everyone was ready to crown them the new kings of the NL West. Their success continued in San Diego, but after playing the Giants again and starting a tough series with the Cardinals with a shellacking on Thursday night, we are starting to find out that this team’s success might have been more a result of their opponents not playing well, rather than this team actually being good. No support for Kershaw and no protection for Kemp signals the start of a long season.
Jump Off – It’s Not Improving
- New York Mets – Sure they had a tough week playing the Rockies who came in and embarrassed them, but you would expect them to win at least one of those games. Their upcoming schedule is actually favorable as they face the Braves and the Astros, however, if they don’t show up big in either of those series, this team will lose any morale they had left to cling to.
Hang On to Your Hat – You Could Cash Out Huge
- Cleveland Indians – This team is used to looking down and seeing the Royals below them, but they aren’t used to looking up and seeing nothing but blue skies. This team is in first place and should have a decent chance to hold on to it. They face the Orioles this weekend and the Royals early next week which will be a showdown for AL Central dominance – it feels weird to say that, but it’s true.
