Colts GM: Tough to Build Defense when Luck Makes so Much

Nobody said being an NFL GM was an easy position, but every GM is responsible for the roster moves they make. When the Indianapolis Colts made Andrew Luck the highest paid player in NFL history, it came at a cost. That cost being the ability to pay quality players for the other 52 roster spots on the team.

Colts GM Ryan Grigson’s excuse for the team’s poor performance this season is perplexing. “When you pay Andrew (Luck) what we did, it’s going to take some time to build on the other side of the ball” said Grigson. Well, maybe you should have thought of that before you spent an exorbitant amount of money on Luck.

Furthermore, how does Grigson explain the Colts finishing in the bottom third of the league in team defense for three out of the last five seasons – long before Luck’s albatross of a contract.
